Chimney Inspection in New Jersey: What's Included
A chimney inspection in New Jersey is the quickest way to find out whether a leak, a stain or crumbling brick is a small repair or something bigger. We go up and look at every part of the chimney above the roof:
- The crown and the chimney cap
- Step flashing and counter flashing where the chimney meets the roof
- Mortar joints and the face of the brick
- The top of the flue and its liner
- The cricket behind wide chimneys
- The attic around the chimney, where we can reach it
Signs a Chimney Needs Looking At
- Water near the chimney
- Stains on the ceiling or wall beside the chimney, worse in wind-driven rain.
- Flaking or crumbling brick
- Spalling means water is getting into the masonry and freezing.
- Cracked crown
- Visible from the ground with binoculars on many houses.
- Bits of tile or debris
- Pieces of clay in the fireplace or at the cleanout can mean a cracked flue liner.
- Buying or selling
- A chimney is expensive to fix, so it is worth knowing its condition first.
How Our Chimney Inspection Process Works
Chimney Inspection Cost: What Drives the Price
The inspection is free, as every roof inspection we do is. If it turns up work, the estimate depends on what failed:
- Flashing
- A roofing repair, priced by the chimney's size and the roof's pitch.
- Crown, cap and mortar
- Masonry work, priced by how much has deteriorated.
- Liner or rebuild
- The larger jobs, priced after the flue or the brick has been fully assessed.
Thinking about chimney inspection? We inspect, photograph what we find and put the price in writing. Free, with no obligation.
Warranty and Materials
The photos and written summary are yours to keep, whether or not you use us for the work. If the inspection points to a repair, see the flashing, crown and mortar work we do; if the flue is cracked or the chimney is getting a new heating appliance, see relining the flue. Want the whole roof checked at the same visit? Ask for a full roof inspection.

Chimney Inspection FAQs
Still have a question?
(201) 757-3945What does a chimney inspection include?
Everything above the roofline: crown, cap, flashing, mortar, brick and the top of the flue, plus the attic around the chimney where we can reach it. You get photos and a written summary.
Do you check the flue as well as the outside?
We check the top of the flue and the liner from the roof. If something points to a problem further down, the summary says so and what the next step would be.
How often should a chimney be inspected?
Once a year if you use it, which is what the national chimney standard (NFPA 211) recommends, and after any storm, chimney fire or new heating appliance.
Is the chimney inspection free?
Yes. The inspection, photos and written summary are free, with no obligation.
